Why is it that I find myself singing the words to that great aria from the movie, The Wizard of Oz by the Lullaby League: "We represent the Lollipop Guild, the Lollipop Guild, the Lollipop Guild. And in the name of the Lollipop Guild............We wish to welcome you to Munchkin Land! It's almost as infectious as the old Ipana toothpaste ad: "Brusha, Brusha Brusha...with the new Ipana....." (catchy ain't it?)
And then I start to wonder....where did the word Munchkin come from? Well it turns out that the term was first coined by L.Frank Baum, the author of the novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, in 1900. However, the movie didn't come out until almost 40 years later.
